A two-step process, investment casting, produces small, complex shapes. Most castings, especially large ones, are made in sand molds. Permanent metal molds are used to make many small, simple parts; shell molding gives greater accuracy for a large volume of semi precision parts. Molten silver is poured into the cavity and allowed to solidify. Sand, mixed with a binder to hold it together, is pressed around a wooden pattern that leaves a cavity in the sand. Wax or plastic replicas of the parts are molded in accurate metal molds. Top of the line casting equipments are utilized to produce the silver jewellery. When the whole mold is heated, the replica melts, leaving behind a cavity into which silver is poured. A diamond is a form of carbon that was created deep within the core of the earth more than 3 billion years ago and brought to the surface by volcanic eruption. In diamond, each carbon atom is bonded to four other carbon atoms in a tetrahedral structure, like a pyramid. Each link or bond is the same length, and the tetrahedral formation is therefore completely regular. Theoretically a perfect diamond crystal could be composed of one giant molecule of carbon. After the magma cooled, it solidified into kimberlite, where the precious rough diamond is still found today. It is the strength and regularity of this bonding which makes diamond very hard, non-volatile and resistant to chemical attack. Because silver jewellery is trendy and simple it has been always in fashion. Sterling silver can be enjoyed a life time. It being a precious metal it is more affordable than gold and platinum. Always keep your ornaments separately, preferably in a cloth pouch or jewellery box in order to prevent scratching and tarnishing. It can be easily removed by polishing with cloth or solutions specifically formulated for silver cleaning, which can be found in any hardware store. Always avoid exposing it to household chemicals, such as bleach or chlorinated water. |
